Writing and Liberty

“I’m free from pain. It’s where nobody tells me what to do; it’s where my imagination is fecund and I am really at my best. Nothing matters more in the world or in my body or anywhere when I’m writing.” — Toni Morrison on NPR’s Fresh Air, 2015

This is exactly the vibe I was talking about in yesterday’s blog. I’m glad I happened across this. I was actually looking into Toni Morrison’s book Imagining Freedom. Here’s a brief summary.

“Toni Morrison’s non-fiction explores the power of word work as a practice of freedom, emphasizing the responsibility of writers to imagine new forms of liberty.”

I’m intrigued by this thought, and I’m interested in reading more of her thoughts on writing and liberty. I think I’d like to step into this challenge if I haven’t already.

Jayne is a writer. On her free time she likes to be with her family hiking outdoors and traveling. New England is her home and place of birth. When asked what she wants to teach the world she replied, "Don't stop searching. Too many times, in my old life, I put my search aside for more 'important matters.' I didn't realize the thing I was searching for held what was most important; my soul purpose." Jayne works daily on improving her craft and at times can get down on herself, but her favorite morning mantra is "It's a new day." and that's what she strives to start with.
