“It is perfectly okay to write garbage as long as you edit brilliantly.” – C. J. Cherryh
It’s not about being perfect the first time. That first sentence is to myself. I’m not out here looking for perfection. I’m looking for honesty. I’m looking for guts. Write, delete, and edit all you want, but if you aren’t being the person who makes you proud, I can feel that. The world can feel that. I think Cherryh’s quote has its place. At the same time, editing brilliantly is not the priority here. The priority here is knowing what your priorities are and living by them. Letting them bleed into your work, your beliefs, your entire world. And when they change, because that’s what priorities do when you’re human, you adjust to welcome the new priorities. It’s not about perfection or brilliance, it’s about you being you.
