Family Dinner

A happy family is but an earlier heaven.

George Bernard Shaw

I had a really nice Sunday with the ones I love. With all the running around we do, having dinner together makes me feel so loved.

Research suggests that having dinner together as a family at least four times a week has positive effects on child development. Family dinners have been linked to a lower risk of obesity, substance abuse, eating disorders, and an increased chance of graduating from high school.

Self Care

This is a great article. I needed some extra rest and self care today. For today’s self care, I waited the full 15 minutes for my conditioner, ate steamed veggies w/ rice (my favorite meal), hung out with my family. All of these things bring me joy and peace and then I took nap.

So to continue today’s theme, I’m sharing an article written by Heather Cherry from Forbes.com titled “The benefits of resting and how to unplug in a busy world.” This article talks about how rest heals your body, reduces stress, boosts creativity and productivity, and more.

I always appreciate restful days.

How about you? How do you rest?

Resources for Writers

Poets and Writers Magazine is one of my favorite magazines. I was always excited to receive this magazine in the mail. It’s nice to get things in the mail but what’s pretty cool is that they have free online resources too.

Here’s a link to their website. Check it out.

On their homepage they have a menu headings with things like Publish Your Writing, Promote your writing, and even Programs and Partnerships. If you’re a writer you should at least know about Poets and Writers Magazine. I think it’s a great place to learn about all the different programs and experiences that the Writing Community has to offer.

Don’t get overwhelmed like me with all the opportunities. I seriously had the put the magazine down when I first started thinking about it. lol

Keys to Personal Excellence

The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.

Confucius

Do you need these things to reach personal excellence? I personally think self acceptance, discipline, and courage are keys. I’m sure we could come up with more.

What do you think are the keys to Personal Excellence?

Oscar Wilde

The Importance of Being Earnest

I loved reading this. The humor is timeless. The play is thoughtful and fun and it shows Wilde’s acute awareness of social expectations.

I listened to this version of the play while I read along in the book. This broadcast has some unscripted musical pieces of entertainment to help break it up. I think I’d love to go see this on stage. But honestly, the script is so well done it’s like you’re there.

I’ve added a could links to the broadcast if you’re interested.

Halloween Thoughts

The two things I love about Halloween are:

  • handing out candy
  • Seeing other people enjoying Halloween

Tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one’s own beliefs. Rather it condemns the oppression or persecution of others.

John F. Kennedy

It’s ok for me to not celebrate Halloween annnd still have fun with those who do. There’s no real clear reason that I don’t celebrate. It’s just not my thing. But I absolutely love those who feel joy from doing their own Halloween thing. Their joy, brings me joy.

Thank you for investing in something that makes you smile.

Dreamers Change the World

Don’t quit. Never give up trying to build the world you can see, even if others can’t see it. Listen to your drum and your drum only. It’s the one that makes the sweetest sound.

Simon Sinek

Well, I’ve been watching One Piece. The main character, Luffy’s famous line is “I’m going to be king of the pirates!” and everyone laughs when they first meet him because he’s a nice guy with a good set of values, and always defends the underdogs. Not what people are used to pirates being. Luffy inspires me so much!

Bedtime Affirmations

I’m loving this article about Affirmations for Sleep on MeditationMoments.com

There’s a lot of different ways to use affirmations, but I appreciate how in this article they explain more than just the bed time affirmations. This article even talks about healthy bed time routines. I usually only pull out bedtime affirmation audios when my anxiety is super high. However, I try my best to say one positive affirmation before bed. It’s nice to have as part of my bedtime routine and I do feel that my day goes better when I’m thinking positively before bed.

Novel Frustrations

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.

Maya Angelou

I’m thinking about adding a character to my story and it’s really giving me a lot of trouble. I don’t have a clear idea who the character is or where to put them within the story. I know their role in the end, but it’s how I’m going to intertwine them into the story that’s really giving me a hard time.

Anyways while trying to figure that out I was reminded by Logos, Ethos, and Pathos which is always a good reminder. I found a great site that explains these tools.

What are logos, ethos and pathos?

Simply put, logos, ethos and pathos are three powerful tools that you can use to persuade an audience of your argument. At the most basic level, logos appeals to logic and reason, while pathos appeals to emotions and ethos emphasises credibility or authority.
