Writing and Holding Your Breath

All good writing is swimming under water and holding your breath.

F. Scott Fitzgerald

This quote by Fitzgerald feels so accurate. I’m very much feeling this way with my novel.

There are moments I have breakthroughs and things become more clear to me. That’s when I feel like I’m above water. That must be the writing gods letting me come up for air. As long as I just keep swimming things will come to me and I’ll have a work of art that I can say I’m proud of. Honestly, I’m already proud of this work. I was proud back when I finished it a couple years ago.

Memories

We do not remember days, we remember moments.

Cesare Pavese

Tomorrow we are having a sibling day and I’m pretty excited about it. My little sister got married, my brother and his family are up from Florida and we all plan to be in the same place on the same day! I love my siblings so the joyful memories we make tomorrow, I’m sure, will last forever.

Just. Keep. Going.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

Confucius

Slow and steady is part of the process. No need to fight. No need to get discouraged. Just take the next best step. Rest, Cry, Sleep if you have to. Just make sure you wake up the next day with a gentle heart and a mind that’s focused. Every step means you’re one step closer to your desires.

The Things We Love

The things that we love tell us what we are.

Thomas Aquinas

This quote is interesting because love is used so frequently today that I try my best to avoid using it in my writing. But I can honestly say I love my family, my friends, and the totality of my life (food, growth, learning, creating, connecting, expanding). These are things I invest in regularly and as much as possible. Right now, I have to focus more on my family and my life, but I do my best to sprinkle friends in as much as possible! Sometimes the universe aligns and we all have a day where we can all meet at the same time. #parenting

So about you? What are some things you love?

Realized

It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Thomas Sowell

This quote has its place. Today, I was thinking about reading this book on leadership. I can’t think of the name off the top of my head, but the point is, I was thinking about how this book can only take me so far. Once the book is read and it’s time to take action, that is when the two come together. That is when experience and knowledge transmute into wisdom. Without getting too philosophical, we can’t experience all the knowledge in the world. This requires a couple of things: relying on the greats before us when we need to and infinite amounts of time and space in our human form. We can do the former; the latter, we haven’t quite figured out scientifically yet. What I’m saying is I don’t think it takes a considerable amount of knowledge to realize our limits. However, I do think that it takes practice to find a healthy confidence in your craft and also being secure enough to admit there are aspects of your craft that you don’t know (and may never know).

Soul vs Spirit

Soul is your inner self in relation to the creator. For some the creator might be God, Cosmic, or the term that you can best appreciate.

Spirit is more related to who you are on this plane. For example I often hear people say, “She has a youthful spirit, or He has a spirit depression upon him.”

This isn’t really some deep philosophical truth (yet). At this point it’s just defining terms for when it’s time to get to the deep philosophical stuff.

A New Woman

Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.

Joseph Campbell

I just wrote an entire post about how great of a time I had with my daughter and it got deleted. Super frustrating.

Just to summarize, I went shopping with my oldest and she really brightened my day. Yay! This afternoon I meditated and did my self care(finally) and I feel like a whole new woman.

Daughter, I hope you realize how much you mean to me and how much you brighten my day. You don’t even have to try!

Hydrogen Cars!

Look at this! A hydrogen car!

And this video was created a year ago! These hydrogen cars can only function in California and Hawaii since they are the only two places in the US that have fueling stations. But how cool is that?! I’m always excited to see us progressing. From this video, the car even looks like it has some pretty cool features. I’d love to take a spin in one of these someday.

The Portable Door

A new movie on Prime called The Portable Door has caught my attention. It’s a film from Jim Henson Company and as a lover of Dark Crystal, I think this film might be my new fav. Here’s a description from IMDB

Paul Carpenter is an intern at a mysterious London firm with unconventional employers, including a CEO who wants to disrupt the ancient magical world with modern corporate practices.
