It’s Not About Perfection

Leadership is a series of behaviors rather than a role for heroes.

Margaret Wheatley, writer, teacher, and speaker

Leaders are heros but the series of behaviors part is a huge part of leadership. Self discipline, consistency, respect, boundaries all these things come together to form an amazing leader. Not with the expectation of perfection but showing enough consistency to be reliable in those areas is a great goal.

Leadership isn’t some schmuckadelie barking orders. It the one working beside their team or even more so willing to do the dirty to see their team rise. I’m lucky to some amazing leaders in life who have impacted me in ways that are priceless and will last lifetime and more.

Loneliness

I found that with depression, one of the most important things you could realize is that you’re not alone.

Dwayne Johnson

Alone? During my darkest days, I didn’t want to be around other people. I wanted to be alone. So when I read quotes like this, I thought I couldn’t relate. Once I shifted my perspective from loneliness as in being with others to loneliness as in lack of connection, I could finally understand the quote. Connection feels good. Made me think even more about how good it can sometimes feel to be understood. That’s when quotes like this one began to make more sense. To be understood, to be heard, to be listened to, that is what takes away the loneliness. You could be in a room full of people who share the same hobbies and life experiences but you’re going to feel mighty lonely in that sea full of people if no ones listens to you or takes time to understand you.

We eliminate loneliness by creating an authentic connection.

That doesn’t instantly cure loneliness or depression but it does help others feel a little less alone. And these days, with all the loss we are experiencing, every little bit counts.

Quick Bit

We need joy as we need air. We need love as we need water. We need each other as we need the earth we share.

 Dr. Maya Angelou

Let yourself enjoy the pockets of sunshine in your life. They don’t last forever. I used to be so focused on the fact that the good moment would end that I didn’t allow myself to fully enjoy it. Now I try my best to enjoy my good moments to the fullest.

I Just Wanna Have Fun

Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun.

Randy Pausch

2023 goalsssss!!! How can we make this more fun, is what I’m going to ask myself this year. I’ve gone long enough with so much seriousness and sadness and even some anger sprinkled in there. Now I wanna focus on good clean life long fun! I think I’m off to a good start for sure!!

What do you like to do for fun?

Axe Throwing

When you are enthusiastic about what you do, you feel this positive energy. It’s very simple.

Paulo Coelho

I’m going axe throwing with my family tonight!! I’m so excited!! I’ve never thrown an axe at a target so we’ll see if those kettlebells exercises last week will give me the strength I need to get em on the bullseye. It’s more about fun and bonding with my family than anything, but wouldn’t it be a delight to throw a couple bullseyes!!

Any weekend plans for you?

Bookstore? Do You Mean Paradise?

I have always imagined paradise will be a kind of library.

Jorge Luis Borges

Bookstores and libraries whisk me away from it all. They are, without a doubt, my paradise. What kind of things can you do in a bookstore? I’m glad you asked. You can judge books by their covers, then give your favorite book cover a quick skim see if it hits you the same way the cover does. You can test books by their first few pages, after a few do you wanna keep reading? You could revisit books you’ve already read. Have a stranger give you a book suggestion. Run your finger over every book in your favorite genre and see if you feel any different once you reach the end. The opportunities are endless.

Ok your turn, what do you do at the bookstore?

There’s a Time for Everything.

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.

Dale Carnegie

This girl right here, (the one writing this blog post) is a woman who strongly believes in good healthy rest. But when you wanna see things come together, especially with writing, you gotta get the reading in and the words down. I’m really feeling that right now. I’ve been slacking on my reading. Not so much slacking on my writing. I can always do better but truthfully writing will swallow me whole. Which probably isn’t so bad and the entire sound of it kinda excites me.

Point being, you gotta write to be writer.

Juggling?

I’m always trying to show versatility. I’m juggling, and I’m flipping fire, and I’m chewing gum and rhyming at the same time… on a unicycle, while playing the drums.

MF Doom

I feel this quote! 2023 is coming in hot and I’m so ready for it!! Anyone else got a ton of shtuff coming your way this new year? It’s making me come alive and I just can’t help it.

“l’art pour l’art”

“Art for art’s sake”

The blank page isn’t so bad when you wanna have fun. And editing is even more fun, when you like what you’re writing. Mindset is everything. It’s all about using that spoonful of sugar to get something on the page. Don’t underestimate yourself though. What I mean is, respect your intelligence along with the dose of sugar. You’re not a dummy chasing a carrot. You’re an intelligent human being who uses daily self discipline to bring something into the world that does not yet exist. Sometimes that means playing with your imagination for the joy of it.

Breaking through writer’s block is like thinking out of the box: Both require an ability to imagine a world outside your four walls or rearranging them to get a better view.

Lighten the Load

I’ve spent the weekend resting and cleaning. I’m still tired and still need to clean. These two things are never done. You gotta work on them everyday which includes thinking about how to maintain them in between. Healthy eating, getting in bed early, using organizers, put things away right away, whatever helps to lighten the load.

Maintenance is terribly important.
