Most Transforming Force

“The connections between and among women are the most feared, the most problematic, and the most potentially transforming force on the planet.” -Adrienne Rich

I didn’t know who Adrienne Rich was before this quote, but she’s on point with it. Adrienne Rich was called one of the most widely read and influential poets of the second half of the 20th century. One of her works, called “A Human Eye: Essays on Art in Society” (2009), even secured her place as one of America’s preeminent feminist thinkers.

I’ll leave you with the first stanza in her poem titled, Planetarium.

“A woman in the shape of a monster
a monster in the shape of a woman
the skies are full of them”

I’m sold! I look forward to reading more of her work.

Jayne is a writer. On her free time she likes to be with her family hiking outdoors and traveling. New England is her home and place of birth. When asked what she wants to teach the world she replied, "Don't stop searching. Too many times, in my old life, I put my search aside for more 'important matters.' I didn't realize the thing I was searching for held what was most important; my soul purpose." Jayne works daily on improving her craft and at times can get down on herself, but her favorite morning mantra is "It's a new day." and that's what she strives to start with.

  1. I’ll admit—I know absolutely nothing about poetry. But reading this makes me want to start. There’s something in the rhythm and the way you weave meaning that pulls me in, even if I’m not sure I fully understand it yet. If only I were smart enough to grasp it all! Still, I’m eager to keep reading and learning. Thank you for sharing this.

    1. “If only I were smart enough to grasp it all!” I’m pretty sure the greats said the same thing. I read a couple of your blog posts, you are smart enough, there’s no doubt about that. I look forward to seeing your journey with poetry. I find the journey through poetry and art to be deeply satisfying.
