Mom Life

“For all the things my hands have held, the best by far is you.” – Unknown

I love being a mom of two amazing girls. I had to learn that being a parent isn’t about perfect timing; it’s about choosing your babies’ best life and your own best life in a way that doesn’t impact the well-being of each other. I like to prepare, but both times I became a mom, timing wasn’t perfect. My girls were (and still are) everything I could ask for in my children. I adore who they are.

Nightmares

The thing about nightmares was that you couldn’t prepare for them. They sneaked up on you when you were most vulnerable.” -Sylvia Day

I haven’t been remembering my dreams as much lately, but a couple of nights ago, I had a nightmare. It was not fun! I had it a few times in a row. I mean, I’m not shocked or anything. I’ve had my fair share of nightmares. It’s nothing new, but it just makes me tired the next day. Thought since we’re in the midst of spooky season it would be a fun time to share.

I hope you have a good sleep tonight.

How’s your sleep going?

Connection

“In nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I don’t write about connection that often but I do appreciate the idea that so much of our world is connected. I have been thinking about this more lately. What do you think about connection? Do you think this is a spiritual idea or more of a scientific idea?

Solitude Sunday

“Do not let Sunday be taken from you. If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan.” -Albert Schweitzer

Another week has gone by, along with another solitude Sunday to appreciate. I look forward to the week ahead. I’m glad I have Sundays to take time to remind myself who I am and what I stand for.

How was your Sunday?

The Best Part About Being a Writer

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” – William Wordsworth

Filling the paper with the breathing of my heart is the best feeling in the world. Finally getting all those scattered thoughts and feelings down on paper is the best way to bring things back into order. If there was anything about writing that always brought me back, this would be it! Even if it’s a mess of words, there’s something about seeing my internal workings in writing. It has definitely saved me, along with the writing community.

It’s All Down Hill From Here

Downhill isn’t easier. It’s your work coming together at a fast pace requiring the same amount of passion and focus. People often think it’s all down hill from here is the easy part. Those of us who have worked our asses off to set a firm foundation, know that downhill is a tad scary, very exciting, and hard work all at once. We see behind the scenes of how we got to the top of the hill and how it took believing when no one else could. Even physically going down hill requires you to use your muscles in a different way and at a faster pace.

Peace

Hermann Hesse: “Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.”

There are days when I am in a beautifully balanced place. It feels like peace. Inside, I’m content with what I’m putting out to the world. I am somehow able to remain calm while the world rattles on around me. My peace in these moments is an expression of acceptance and tolerance. “It’s okay,” is what my peace says.

I do have days when the peace requires more intention to access, and on those days, my all-time go-to solution is candles and a bath.

How do you find peace?

Appreciation

“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” -Dalai Lama

I appreciate everything ounce of effort you share. I’m so grateful for the way you support and the way you show up. I don’t know if you give yourself enough credit for all you do. So right now in this moment I want to thank you. Thank you for making the choice to share and then doing it over and over again.

Free Will

“Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.” -Jawaharlal Nehru

Ultimately, the choice is yours. We are all winging it as we go here. Someone may have taken a similar path and may know some shortcuts or even have some resources to share, which is what’s great about mentors. But the important thing about taking up the mantle is that we have to find our own way. The technology we have these days is a great support system. There are some amazing supportive communities. There’s tons and tons of free information out there. If it’s not in the cards, try a different deck. Ask a different question. Change your perspective.
