Jim Henson Documentary

Disney+ now has a Jim Henson documentary available. I haven’t even finished it yet, and I’m already inspired. I don’t think I ever took the time to think about how versatile a creator Henson was. This documentary reveals how he fought to see puppeteering become larger than life in America. It’s interesting to see his sketches and the way the stage looks as a puppeteer versus a viewer; two completely different worlds.

Let me know if you take some time to watch the documentary!

Tech Update

I think I’ve reached a point in my rewrite stage where I’m going to need another monitor, but what really fueled this whole idea is that I also want to try some PC gaming. I like Zelda, but I also want to try some other action-adventure games.

Learning to use two screens at work has spoiled me. I had no idea what I was missing. Computer stuff is significantly easier with more screens. So now my husband is in search of a monitor for me, and I think I’m going to transition from my trusty Surface Pro (which I love and I’m not ready to part with) to a desktop computer.

Do you have any suggestions for desktop brands, set ups or anything related?

Novelist Outlines

Do you outline before you start writing your novel?

I didn’t think I did but I just learned today that there’s different types of outlining. Here’s the list Gemini (Google AI) gave me.

Choose Your Outline Style

  • Plot-focused: Great for structured stories. List major plot points (inciting incident, climax, resolution) with brief descriptions.
  • Character-focused: Explore your characters’ motivations and arcs. Outline their goals, conflicts, and transformations.
  • Scene-based: List key scenes with a sentence or two summarizing the action and purpose.
  • Hybrid: Combine elements from different styles to fit your needs.

When I begin planning my novel the first thing I do is find ways to understand my characters. I do character outlines several times throughout the writing process. I’ve never been good at scene-based outlines and I should really take some time to learn how to do a plot outline. I’m laughing at that because I have often felt lost while writing my novel.

Bee Yourself

Since we are on the topic of Disney movies, how about that part where Genie tells Aladdin, “BEE yourself!” Authenticity and vulnerability go hand in hand. It requires consistency, courage, and intention to be Authentic and vulnerable.

But as we learned from the Disney movie, Aladdin, it’s the better to be yourself from the beginning than to let your false image grow into something monstrous and out of control.

This Part Get Me Every Time

“Remember who you are.” came up on my feed today from Lion King. But it reminds me of the scene from Disney’s Moana where her grandmother’s spirit tells her the same thing. I cry at this part every time I watch Moana. So on this lovely Wednesday night, I will share the lyrics but this song really deserves more. I suggest taking some time to watch the full movie.

I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)
Song by Auliʻi Cravalho and Rachel Hous

“I know a girl from an island
She stands apart from the crowd
She loves the sea and her people
She makes her whole family proud
Sometimes the world seems against you
The journey may leave a scar
But scars can heal and reveal just
Where you are

The people you love will change you
The things you have learned will guide you
And nothing on earth can silence
The quiet voice still inside you
And when that voice starts to whisper
“Moana, you’ve come so far”
Moana listen, do you know who you are?

Who am I?
I am a girl who loves my island
And the girl who loves the sea, it calls me
I am the daughter of the village chief
We are descended from voyagers
Who found their way across the world
They call me

I’ve delivered us to where we are
I have journeyed farther
I am everything I’ve learned and more
Still it calls me

And the call isn’t out there at all
It’s inside me
It’s like the tide
Always falling and rising
I will carry you here in my heart
You’ll remind me
That come what may
I know the way

I am Moana!”

Limits Improve Creativity

Creative Freedom is fabulous but have you ever noticed that creativity improves when people are given limitations?

I’m not a huge fan of being told what I can and can’t do with my creativity. Whether it be my social media platforms or my writing. But when I’m really looking for inspo, I search out those writing challenges where you have to follow rules to complete the challenge. Sometimes it’s more frustrating than helpful but most times I end up letting loose and having fun!

So if you’re feeling frustrated by your limitations right now, think about ways you can use those limitations to increase your creativity. That is where creative freedom thrives!!

Don’t let limitations get you down, write your frown upside-down.

Ok ok, I’m done. Happy Writing!

Intentions

“An intention is a commitment to yourself that is aligned with action,” according to Peloton, “while goals are larger things that you want to concretely achieve.”

There are a lot of things I want to see and feel but I want to be present for them. That means taking a moment to step away from social media and taking a deep breath to think about how I want to feel. While I’m there taking mental notes of the things I’d like to share and recall.

“The gifts we are given in life require the best of us, not merely our best intentions.” -Les Brown

The Sacred Sala Tree

I was hanging out with my little one and we both learned about a tree that shares the same name as her called the Sacred Sala Tree.

It’s origin is in India and this tree is even included in their sculptures. The Sacred Sala tree is also known as Sal or sakhua in northern India. According to housing . com “This enormous tree can grow up to 30-35 meters and has a comparatively thinner trunk. Shorea Robusta is an important outdoor evergreen tree that can live for a long time and grow to great heights.”

I think this is a fun start thing to learn. I never heard of these before so I thought it would be cool to share it. Have you heard of this tree?

Friendship

Friendship is a valuable thing. I have always valued my friendships even though I need a lot of time alone. I googled Friendship poems and a poem by Shel Silverstein titled Hug O’ War was suggested. Now, I’m not a huge fan of hugs outside of my close friends and family but I thought this would be fun share.

Hug O’ War

I will not play at tug o’ war.
I’d rather play at hug o’ war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins
